The University of Arizona College of Education proudly congratulates Dr. Ronald Marx on his election to the National Academy of Education (NAEd), one of the highest honors in the field of education. Election to the Academy recognizes a career marked by exceptional distinction, leadership, and lasting contributions to education research, policy, and practice.

Dr. Marx is a Professor of Educational Psychology Emeritus and Dean of Education Emeritus at the University of Arizona. Most recently, he served the university as Interim Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. Beyond his academic leadership, Dr. Marx has demonstrated a deep commitment to the Tucson community, serving as a founding board member of Tucson Values Teachers and a founding member of the leadership council for the Tucson Cradle to Career Initiative. His service also includes roles on the Southern Arizona Advisory Committee of Act One (2017–2021) and the Board of Trustees for the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, where he chaired the Community Investment team from 2018–2020 and served as Vice Chair from 2022–2023.

In announcing the new cohort, Alfredo J. Artiles, president of the National Academy of Education, shared, “We welcome this outstanding group of scholars and leaders to the National Academy of Education at a critical moment in the history of our nation—one that demands a renewed commitment to the generation and use of scientific evidence in informing the field’s knowledge base, as well as policies and practices of educational systems.”

The National Academy of Education advances high-quality education research and promotes its use in policy and practice. Membership is composed of U.S. scholars and international associates elected through a rigorous peer-nomination process based on outstanding scholarship or leadership. Members contribute to expert study panels addressing critical issues in education and support the Academy’s professional development fellowship programs.

Dr. Marx’s election reflects his extraordinary impact on education locally, nationally, and beyond, and the College of Education is honored to celebrate this well-deserved recognition.
