Reflecting on Freedom: Celebrate Juneteenth in Tucson

Juneteenth, observed on June 19, marks the day in 1865 when the last enslaved people in the U.S. were finally informed of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It’s a moment to honor resilience and reflect on the ongoing pursuit of equity. We embrace and celebrate the diverse experiences and histories that shape our community. While the university isn’t hosting events this year, the City of Tucson offers many ways to celebrate. —visit the Tucson Juneteenth Festival website to find local events and join in the commemoration.
