Deaf History Month Speaker Series
The College of Education’s Deaf Studies Program is proud to celebrate Deaf History Month this April with a dynamic speaker series highlighting diverse voices and lived experiences within the Deaf community. Hosted by Senior Lecturer Lisa Furr, the series features three engaging sessions:
- Steven Brunelle (April 9) will present Keepers of Hand Talk Stories;
- Franklin Jones Jr. (April 13) will share My Journey with Black American Sign Language; and
- Bibi Ashley (April 27) will explore The Journey of Being Black Deaf.
All events will be held on Arizona time (MST) and are accessible via Zoom, with the April 27 session also offered in person at the College of Education (Room 104). ASL interpreters will be provided for all sessions, and additional accommodations are available upon request. This series offers a meaningful opportunity for students, faculty, and the broader community to learn, reflect, and engage with important histories and perspectives within Deaf culture.
