The University of Arizona College of Education is proud to celebrate Maura Mulligan, co-president of the College of Education Alumni Council, who has been named the 2026 Alumna of the Year.

A two-time University of Arizona graduate, Mulligan earned her bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation in 1977 and her master’s degree in education in 1980. She dedicated more than 30 years to the Tucson Unified School District, primarily at Erickson Elementary School, where she served as a teacher of students with special needs and made a lasting impact on generations of students through her compassion and commitment to equity.

Throughout her career, Mulligan went above and beyond to support students and families, launching initiatives such as the Snack Pack program to address food insecurity and advocating for inclusive, equitable educational practices. Her service extended beyond the classroom through community-focused efforts, including free vision screenings for preschoolers and international youth exchanges.

A devoted Wildcat, Mulligan currently serves as co-president of the College of Education Alumni Council, where she leads fundraising efforts, mentors students, and strengthens alumni connections. She and her husband, Kevin, are also generous supporters of the college, contributing to scholarships and programs such as the Cooper Center for Environmental Learning and the Worlds of Words Center.

Mulligan’s lifelong dedication to education, service, and community exemplifies the spirit of a Wildcat for Life.
