The University of Arizona College of Education proudly celebrates Smith Endowed Chair Dr. Renae Mayes, who has been named a recipient of the prestigious S. Kent Butler Transformative Impact Award from the American Counseling Association.

This national honor recognizes counseling professionals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing equity, inclusion, and access through their work. Dr. Mayes was recognized alongside other leaders in the field as part of the ACA Awards for Achievement and Excellence in Professional Counseling and was celebrated at the 2026 ACA Conference & Expo.

Through her scholarship, leadership, and advocacy, Dr. Mayes continues to expand opportunity and create meaningful change for communities across the field of education and counseling. Her work exemplifies the spirit of this award and reflects the profound impact she has on students, colleagues, and the broader community.
