Leadership and Learning Innovation Internships

Internships: Explore career pathways and build your resume!

Step-By-Step Internship Application Process

Step 1

Find an organization willing to host you for an internship. Look for internship experiences that will support your long-term career goals.

Step 2

Complete and email the ONLINE APPLICATION.  Note: This form must be submitted every semester a student wants to receive internship credit. Helpful tips on how to complete the form online may be found on the Adobe Reader support page.

Step 3

If you are working with minors or vulnerable adults, you must obtain a fingerprint clearance card or background check from your organization.  Once you receive your card or background check, scan and send it to the Leadership and Learning Innovation email.

Step 4

Once these steps are successfully submitted, your advisor will be notified to register you for academic credit.

Why Is An Internship Important For Leadership and Learning Innovation Majors?

Leadership majors can use internships for elective credit in their program of study.  An internship is optional, but it is a great way for students to explore career paths, receive academic credit, and build their resumes all at the same time.  Internships also give students the opportunity to:

  • Put methods and theories from coursework into practice,
  • Engage with a professional community and develop valuable leadership skills such as critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.
  • Gain concrete experience for future employers in areas such as program design, assessment, and event planning.

The leadership internship course for credit is offered to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students wanting a 3-unit internship must have room in their schedules to intern for 9-10 hours a week. To see the breakdown of hours needed per unit of credit, view this chart.

Before you apply for internship credit, set up an appointment with your College of Education advisor to make sure internship credit fits into your program of study.

**The internship application process should be completed in the semester prior to the semester you actually intern.

A woman wearing a beige ranger jacket with a patch on the sleeve, a neon yellow safety vest, and green cargo pants stands on a dirt overlook at a national park. She holds a yellow notepad and gestures as if explaining something. The background features a stunning view of red rock formations, green trees, and a full moon rising in the evening sky.
