The US has a shortage of interpreters for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, especially those who are qualified to work in elementary and secondary schools. A Deaf Studies degree prepares students to work with Deaf and hard-of-hearing people in a variety of settings, including education. Become fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and gain immersive experience as you prepare for a variety of fields working alongside diverse Deaf communities.

Elementary Education
Shape the Future, One Classroom at a Time
Great teachers change lives. Our Elementary Education program prepares you to inspire and support every child you teach, with hands-on practicum and student teaching at local school sites so you're connecting theory to real classrooms from day one.
Choose from five program options, available in person, online, and hybrid, all leading to an Arizona K-8 Teaching Certificate with an ESL endorsement and a K-5 Literacy endorsement built in. Add a Bilingual endorsement to open even more doors.

If you are passionate about assisting people achieve their goals while also advocating for removal of barriers in our communities, a BSE in Rehabilitation Studies and Services may be for you! This program operates on the philosophy that environmental barriers (physical, social, workplace, educational, attitudinal) cause one to be disabled, marginalized, and disconnected, and that rehabilitation is a process of empowerment in which people exercise control over their own lives. Every person has the right to be a full participant in our communities.

Learn to work with and support students and young adults with mild to moderate disabilities, including learning disabilities, developmental delays, autism, and emotional and behavioral disorders. A BSE Special Education - Mild to Moderate Disabilities prepares you to become a K-12 Special Education teacher.
