Interested in Teaching Secondary Education (Grades 6–12)?
Secondary Education isn't a stand-alone major, it's a pathway. Here's how it works:
- Choose a major in the subject you want to teach. This gives you deep content knowledge in your subject area.
- Consider pairing it with a major in Leadership & Learning Innovation. This builds your foundation in education and leadership.
- After graduation, pursue a master's degree or post-baccalaureate teacher certification program to become licensed to teach.
Special cases: some subjects have their own dedicated teaching major
If you want to teach one of the subjects below, choose that major instead of Leadership & Learning Innovation. These are the only undergraduate majors that lead directly to Secondary Education licensure in their subject:
- Want to teach Mathematics? Major in Mathematics BA/BS (Education Emphasis)
- Want to teach Agriculture? Major in Agricultural Technology Management & Education (Teaching Emphasis)
K–12 teaching options
- Want to teach Art? Major in Art & Visual Culture Education (Teaching Emphasis)
- Want to teach Music? Major in Music Education
The US has a shortage of interpreters for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, especially those who are qualified to work in elementary and secondary schools. A Deaf Studies degree prepares students to work with Deaf and hard-of-hearing people in a variety of settings, including education. Become fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and gain immersive experience as you prepare for a variety of fields working alongside diverse Deaf communities.

Early Childhood Education

From their first steps to their first day of third grade, the years from birth to age 8 are where curiosity takes root, and you can be the one who helps it grow. Earn your Bachelor of Arts in Education in Early Childhood Education and get ready to make a lasting difference in young learners' lives.

Elementary Education
Shape the Future, One Classroom at a Time
Great teachers change lives. Our Elementary Education program prepares you to inspire and support every child you teach, with hands-on practicum and student teaching at local school sites so you're connecting theory to real classrooms from day one.
Students have the choice of in person or online classes to earn their Bachelor of Arts in Education. This degree leads to an Arizona K-8 Teaching Certificate with an ESL endorsement and a K-5 Literacy endorsement. Add a Bilingual endorsement to open even more doors.

If you are passionate about assisting people achieve their goals while also advocating for removal of barriers in our communities, a BSE in Rehabilitation Studies and Services may be for you! This program operates on the philosophy that environmental barriers (physical, social, workplace, educational, attitudinal) cause one to be disabled, marginalized, and disconnected, and that rehabilitation is a process of empowerment in which people exercise control over their own lives. Every person has the right to be a full participant in our communities.

Learn to work with and support students and young adults with mild to moderate disabilities, including learning disabilities, developmental delays, autism, and emotional and behavioral disorders. A BSE Special Education - Mild to Moderate Disabilities prepares you to become a K-12 Special Education teacher.
