Spring Indigenizing Pedagogies Speaker Series

Rooting Teaching & Learning in Indigenous Philosophies

We are pleased to invite you to our Spring Indigenous Pedagogies Speaker Series session on March 20, 2024. The series is open to the public and consists of presentations with various speakers whose important and influential work informs the process of teaching and learning with Pre-K to 8th grade students around the importance of Indigenous histories, knowledges, and values. The purpose of the series is to provide space for teachers of Native students to consider how curriculum that integrates Native histories and contexts into classrooms works to develop a critical consciousness in Indigenous youth that would ultimately move them to advocate for and sustain their communities.

This March, we will be joined by a panel of Indigenous knowledge holders and educators who will story the ways in which they root Indigenous values, teachings and customs in their classroom spaces to guide their approaches to teaching and learning. Our panelists include Paulita Lomaomvaya (Hopi), Kristy Pavatea (Hopi), Marie Salt (Diné), Lois Liston (Tohono O’odham), and Daniel Vega (Pascua Yaqui). Professional development certificates (1.5 hours) are available upon request.
