STEM Transfer Students and Culturally-Responsive Practice
Are you interested in learning more about a successful project - the STEM Bridge Project - and how our highly effective partnership with Pima Community College has reversed the trend for low-income STEM aspiring community college transfer students, with a 91% STEM persistence/bachelor's degree completion rate for a population whose success is closer to only 10% nationally?!
As a result of what we have learned, we are defining and redefining what elements of culture we think matter for the success of these students, the role of STEM faculty mentors, and our ideas around adapting the culture and structure of university administrative processes and STEM classrooms to better meet the needs of this low-income transfer student population, many of whom are returning adult students with families.
