** The DES-AZ RSA-UA Academic Support ISA is
available only to Arizona RSA personnel **
The ISA offers online graduate courses and workshops that facilitate, not guarantee, the ability to sit for the CRC examination and matriculate in the in-person MA Counseling Program
Arizona’s Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) considers it a priority to hire and retain personnel who meet the Joint Committee on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) education and experience standards. Additionally, AZ RSA collaborates with the University of Arizona to support AZ RSA personnel who have demonstrated a desire and ability to pursue a Counseling MA with an emphasis in clinical rehabilitation.
To achieve that goal, AZ RSA and The University of Arizona maintain an Interagency Service Agreement (ISA) that provides an opportunity for certification in Rehabilitation Counseling and an opportunity to apply to the MA Counseling Program. Thus, the ISA encompasses five non-degree seeking (NDS) professional development opportunities and one MA degree-seeking opportunity.
- 5-Course NDS Graduate Program tier. CACREP-accredited graduate online courses completed over the course of one or two academic years -- Fall, Spring, Summer. This tier qualifies certain RSA personnel who hold an MA in Rehabilitation Counseling or a related field that needs an “upgrade” to qualify for the national Certified Rehabilitation Counselor examination (CRCE). While those AZ RSA personnel with BA/BS and MA/MS degrees in fields removed from counseling (e.g., human resources, business administration, religious studies) would not qualify for the CRCE, they would fortify their knowledge base and competencies for increased positive client outcomes.
- SERP 554: Motivational Interviewing
- SERP 565: Introduction to Rehab & Mental Health CNSL
- SERP 580: Medical Aspects of Disability
- SERP 585: Career and Vocational Planning
- SERP 587: Lifespan Development and Disability
- NDS Graduate Course Extension tier. An opportunity for AZ RSA scholars who need 1-2 additional online or in-person courses to the 5-course CRC certification opportunity described in #1.
- Supervisory Symposium tier. AZ RSA supervisor participates in a didactic and experiential setting to update supervisory skills.
- Quarterly didactic and experiential workshop tier. facilitated by scholars and community leaders on a variety of topics that reflect current or persistent trends in the rehabilitation profession.
- MA Counseling Program, Clinical Rehabilitation Emphasis. AZ RSA personnel who successfully completed the 5-course Graduate Program or equivalent courses, can apply to the MA Counseling Program. Please note the MA application process is based on rigorous graduate college application standards and availability of seats.
All AZ RSA personnel interested in any tier of the ISA can discuss their interest with their direct supervisors and/or contact Dr. Camelia Shaheed.
