The Master of Arts in Teaching & Learning supports you in developing and expanding your teaching tools, preparing for advancement in your career in education, or continuing to doctoral studies. In this two-year, 30-credit-hour program, you will learn the latest information about teaching and learning while specializing in an area that matches your interests. Focus areas include children’s and young adult literature, critical youth studies, early childhood education, Indigenous education, languages and literacies, science, mathematics and environmental education, and social justice and equity education. The program also offers a distance-based option with synchronous classes via Zoom.

Learn about and focus on an area of your choice and interest.
Prepare for a new position in education through an advanced study of teaching and learning.
The majority of the graduates of this program are teachers in schools and informal education institutions. Other graduates continue their education and go on to doctoral programs.

Issues of Equity and Social Justice in Teaching and Learning, Including Meeting the Needs of Diverse Learners (2 courses from the following):

- TLS 537: Equity in Schools and Society
- TLS 640: Social Justice and Equity as a Framework for Education
- TLS 641: Immigration and Education
- Or other advisor-approved equity and social justice courses
Capstone Experience in Teaching or Research:
- TLS 576: Action Inquiry in Classrooms and Communities
- Or other advisor-approved research methods courses
In addition to 12 credits of core coursework, students must complete coursework in their selected major focus area.
