Learn to work with and support students and young adults with mild to moderate disabilities, including learning disabilities, developmental delays, autism, and emotional and behavioral disorders. A BSE Special Education - Mild to Moderate Disabilities prepares you to become a K-12 Special Education teacher. Students spend three semesters engaged in coursework, learning best practices in special education instruction and curriculum content. A fourth semester includes a supervised internship in a special education setting, where undergraduates observe and interact with students with mild to moderate disabilities. Program participants graduate classroom-ready to make a difference in students' lives.

Accelerated Masters Program
Interested in earning both your bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in as few as five years? The Special Education Accelerated Master’s Program offers students pursuing the Bachelor of Science Mild to Moderate Disabilities degree the opportunity to begin taking graduate courses during their final year towards an MA Special Education degree. After completing the undergraduate program, students take another year of courses to complete the master’s degree in the specialization area of their choice: severe and multiple disabilities, deaf and hard of hearing, or visual impairment.
How to Declare this Major
Students can apply to the Mild to Moderate Disabilities program after they have completed approximately 60 credits (usually at the end of their 4th semester). Admission requires two professional letters of recommendation and an Identity-Verified Prints (IVP) card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
