Special education tailors the educational experience to meet the unique needs and differences of each student. This involves creating an individually planned and systematically monitored arrangement of teaching methods, adapted equipment and materials, and accessible learning environments. The goal of these interventions is to help individuals with special needs achieve greater personal self-sufficiency and success in school and their communities, which may not be attainable through typical classroom education alone.

Project FOCUS

Our program proudly hosts Project FOCUS (Focusing Opportunities with Community and University Support), a pioneering two-year transition program for young adults aged 18-21 with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This innovative program is a collaboration with Pima County public school districts and offers a unique post-high school transition experience. Participants gain access to the University of Arizona's academic courses, community-based internships, and campus life social events. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance their independence, communication, and employability, mirroring the opportunities available to their peers. Our students, including those with autism and other disabilities, share the same aspirations of learning on a college campus and pursuing fulfilling careers.
