Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Learning Series
Gender and Racial Equity Toolkit Workshop
On behalf of the College of Education Diversity Committee and the TLS Equity Committee, I invite all College of Education staff, students and faculty to join us for the Gender and Racial Equity Toolkit Workshop.
As part of the COE Diversity Committee’s Advancing Justice through DEI Series this year, the Equity Toolkit workshop aims to both introduce the work done by Dr. Z Nicolazzo supporting the college in areas of equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice — and provide us all with an opportunity to reflect on her work so that we may seek out ways to apply it to our own professional lives in and out of the classroom.
The questions guiding our time together will include:
- How do we give up and re-distribute resources to create more equitable work and classroom environments?
- How does our work and teaching humanize those we interact with at the college?
- Who is centered in our professional interactions?
- How do/can our professional interactions both reinforce and dismantle dominant narratives and practices surrounding whiteness, ableism, cisgenderism, and misogyny?
This will be a hybrid event where participants can attend in-person at the College of Education or virtually through Zoom — with those attending in-person sharing a delicious lunch provided by the College of Education.
For those not able to attend, the Diversity Committee and the Equity Committee will provide both recorded video of the event and opportunities to participate asynchronously.
**In preparation for the workshop, participants will be asked to engage in some anticipatory work prior to January 20 — but we know that your time is valuable, so do what you can when you can. Your attendance is what matters most. More details to come on this anticipatory work (and the event location/link) after the new year for those who register.
