Scholarships & Financial Aid for First-Year Wildcats

Becoming a UA Wildcat includes more than academics — it’s about making sure your education is affordable. As a first‑year student in the College of Education, you have access to several scholarship, grant, and financial aid options. This page shows you what’s available, how to apply, and key dates to remember.

Apply for University & Merit Scholarships

  • Submit your UA admission application.
  • Select your intended major in the College of Education during the UA application process.
  • All admitted first‑year students are considered for merit scholarships, pending availability of funds.

File FAFSA & Institutional Aid

  • Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to qualify for federal, state, and institutional need‑based aid.
  • Priority FAFSA filing deadline for Fall admission is April 1 for new incoming students.  Continuing students should complete their application by March 1.
  • Use the University of Arizona’s Federal School Code 001083 when completing FAFSA to ensure proper processing.

Explore Additional Scholarships

  • Use Scholarship Universe — UA’s scholarship matching tool — to find internal and external scholarship opportunities.
  • The College of Education also offers program‑specific scholarships (for example in leadership, special education, interpreter training). Check the COE Scholarships page for program‑specific awards.
  • Merit + need‑based combinations are possible depending on eligibility.

What Happens After You Apply for Aid

  • Financial Aid Office reviews your FAFSA and awards institutional/state/federal aid as applicable.
  • Check your UA (and COE) email and financial aid portal for your award letter.
  • If you are awarded tuition scholarships or other awards, make sure you understand what you need to maintain eligibility (e.g. GPA, enrollment status).
  • Reach out early if you have unusual circumstances (e.g. costs related to travel, technology, caregiving needs) — there may be additional resources.
