Transfer Students

Welcome Transfer Wildcats

Every year, students just like you successfully transfer to the University of Arizona College of Education. We’re excited to help you take the next step. Use this guide to understand admission requirements, how your credits transfer, deadlines, and how to prepare for professional program admission when relevant.

Apply to Arizona & Choose Your Major

Transferring Credits & Transfer Planning

  • Map your completed coursework to UA’s general education/foundational requirements and the specific requirements for your COE major.
  • Use UA transfer guides and community college guides. COE provides transfer guides for many Arizona community colleges.
  • If you’re 1‑2 semesters away from transferring, meet with a COE academic advisor to ensure course alignment.
  • For certification‑linked programs, begin professional admission as you approach the professional phase of your program.

Programs Requiring Professional Admission

Some COE majors require professional (secondary-phase) admission in addition to being accepted to UA. These include, but may not be limited to:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Elementary Education (ESL and bilingual)
  • Mild to Moderate Disabilities (Special Education Teaching)
  • Deaf Studies (interpreter and non‑interpreter tracks)

You’ll want to check with an advisor early so that you meet prerequisites and application timing.

Requirements & Academic Review

  • COE considers GPA (minimum 2.5, preferred 3.0) among other factors in evaluating transfer applicants.
  • Foundational and general education coursework should be largely complete before entering the professional phase.
  • Some majors have specific requirements (e.g. ASL proficiency or in‑progress work, certain prerequisite courses).

Deadlines & Key Dates

Refer to UA’s Transfer Deadlines page for the most up‑to‑date information.

  • Important deadlines may include semester application deadlines, transcript submission deadlines, and deadlines for professional admission into COE majors.

After You Submit Your Application

  • Monitor your UA & COE status dashboard (acceptances, official transcript review).
  • Once admitted or accepted into the professional phase, ensure all prerequisite and certification requirements are met.
  • Make an appointment with a COE advisor to plan your remaining coursework and ensure smooth transition.

Tips for a Strong Transfer Application

  • Start early with planning coursework; use the COE transfer guides.
  • Meet with advisors at your current institution and at the College of Education.
  • Provide complete transcripts from all sources.
  • Highlight leadership, service, and relevant educational experience in your application materials.
  • If required, write a personal statement or essay that explains why COE is your destination.
