Celebrating Dr. Desirée Cueto: 2025–2028 Jewell M. Lewis Distinguished Professor in Literacy

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Desirée Cueto has been selected as the next Jewell M. Lewis Endowed Distinguished Professor in Literacy. Her proposal received the highest ranking from external reviewers and was unanimously recognized for its alignment with the spirit of this distinguished award.

Dr. Cueto’s project will assess the impact of Salas de Libros on literacy engagement, community building, and cultural preservation. Her interdisciplinary and community-centered approach promises to expand understanding of how informal, community-based literacy initiatives foster belonging, reflection, and a love of reading.

This three-year appointment will begin on July 1, 2025. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Cueto on this well-deserved recognition.
