Educational Psychology

Our graduate programs in the Department of Educational Psychology prepare students for influential roles in research, teaching, and other areas where educational psychology is applied. We leverage psychological science to enhance the learning process and promote educational success for all students. We offer an M.A. in Educational Psychology and a Ph.D. with a major in Educational Psychology, with individualized programs featuring a wide range of courses, internships, and research opportunities.

Graduate study extends beyond coursework. While coursework is crucial, we encourage students to engage in additional opportunities to become scholars in their chosen fields. Students should seek research experiences and other individualized studies to supplement their coursework. We recommend that all graduate students engage in research, formulating their own questions, learning field canons, and conducting original research. Our dedicated faculty assist students in refining and publishing their research.

We offer numerous opportunities for students to develop valuable teaching, research, assessment, and evaluation skills. While the university provides support, the primary responsibility for taking advantage of these opportunities lies with the student.

Students are initially assigned temporary advisors based on scholarly interests. Faculty advisors, whose support is crucial for admission and financial assistance, play a key role in program planning. Students are encouraged to work closely with their advisors to determine their course of study and fulfill educational goals. Consistent contact with faculty advisors is expected, and students may change advisors or committee members when appropriate.
