Multilingualism as a Stance
Multilingualism as a Stance
A two-day interactive workshop framing multilingualism as a resource and stance, not a problem. Participants explore translingual picturebooks — English texts that naturally weave in other world languages — and engage with children's authors/illustrators. Focus is on language awareness and strategies for engaging students with linguistic diversity, not language instruction. Includes time to browse books and practice dialogue strategies. Picturebooks, booklists, and materials included.
Leaders: Kathy G. Short, Dorea Kleker, and Narges Zandi (University of Arizona) Cost: $40 (lunch, materials, and 14-hour PD certificate included) Space: Limited to 35 participants
