The higher education minor is ideal for individuals interested in the study of student access, experience, and success, higher education leadership and policy, and/or faculty and staff careers. It consists of 9 hours (or three classes) and is available to any degree-seeking graduate student at the University of Arizona.

A formal higher education minor is transcriptable, which means it will appear on a student’s final transcript and diploma.

A formal and transcriptable minor requires:

  • HED 601: U.S. Higher Education, which is offered every fall.
  • HED 609: Organizations and Administration, which is offered every spring.
  • HED 636: College Access and Success OR HED 628: Theories of Inequality OR HED 619:  International Higher Education.

An informal higher education minor also requires 9 hours (or three Higher Education courses), but it is not transcriptable, meaning it will not appear on the student's transcript. Informal minors can be tailored to reflect a student’s individual research interests or professional goals.
