Rehabilitation, Mental Health, and Counseling (RMHC)

The MA and PhD degree programs prepare students to become professional counselors, counselor educators, clinical supervisors, and national leaders and advocates. Across our MA and PhD degrees is a philosophy and practice of trauma-informed care, social justice, social determinants of health, and integrative care.

As part of a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and land grant university, we prioritize serving diverse communities by preparing professional counselors to acknowledge the role of privilege and oppression, address systemic barriers, and promote social justice. Through rigorous academic training, culturally responsive practice, and community engagement, our program empowers our students and graduates to advocate for and support the well-being of all individuals, particularly those from historically marginalized populations.

If you are passionate about helping people achieve their goals while also removing the systemic and structural barriers in our communities, a BSE in Rehabilitation Studies and Services may be for you! This program operates on the philosophy that environmental barriers (physical, social, workplace, educational, attitudinal) cause one to be disabled, marginalized, and disconnected, and that rehabilitation is a process of empowerment in which people exercise control over their own lives. Every person has the right to be a full participant in our communities.
