Dr. Jesse Stipek is an Assistant Professor of Practice and the Director of Graduate Studies for the Sport and Recreation Leadership program in the Department of Teaching, Learning & Sociocultural Studies at the University of Arizona College of Education. In these roles, he contributes to graduate education, program development, and student mentorship. Dr. Stipek helped develop the Sport and Recreation Leadership Master of Arts and stackable certificates in Inclusive Leadership in Sport and Recreation and Sport and Recreation Management.

Dr. Stipek received his Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies and Practice from the University of Arizona College of Education. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Arizona. As an undergraduate, he competed as a member of the University of Wisconsin-Madison swimming and diving team and served as a team captain.

Dr. Stipek’s professional experience includes eight years as an assistant coach for the University of Arizona Swimming and Diving team. Throughout his coaching career, he worked across numerous levels of competitive swimming, ranging from age-group athletes to NCAA Champions and Olympic Gold medalists. His experience as a coach has informed his teaching, mentoring, and scholarship, particularly his 
interest in leadership, equity, and belonging in athletics.

Dr. Stipek has held several leadership and service roles within the College of Education and the University of Arizona. He served on the College’s Diversity Committee and College Council and was a member of the Athletic Department’s Inclusive Excellence Council. He also 
volunteered as a Cats Connect Mentor, supporting first-year student-athletes in their transition to the University of Arizona. He currently serves on the NCAA Research Review Board.

Dr. Stipek’s research has focused on the need for new policies related to sexual assault within college athletics during the #MeToo movement. His teaching and scholarship have particularly examined how political spectacle theory can be applied to understanding policy development
related to sexual assault on campuses, Title IX, the NCAA, and issues of equity and equality within athletics.
