ASL Waitlist FAQ

The ASL program is in high demand, and we understand that students are eager to secure a seat. To help streamline communication and ensure consistency, please refer to the answers below regarding ASL waitlist procedures.

If the class is full, the best option is to add yourself to the waitlist through the registration system. Students are admitted from the waitlist in order, based on availability and instructor approval.

Please do not email instructors or advisors directly to request an override or exception.

If a space opens, UAccess will process the waitlist starting with Position 1 and attempt to enroll eligible students automatically.

If a student has a schedule conflict, an account hold, or is already enrolled in another section of the course, the system will skip that student and move to the next.

In UAccess, toggle off “Show Open Classes Only” to locate full sections.

When adding the class to your shopping cart, check the box that says “Add me to the wait list if the class is full.”

No. Advisors do not have access to place students on waitlists.

Possible reasons include:

  • No available space in the course
  • A time conflict with another class
  • You’re already enrolled in another section of the same course
  • A registration hold is on your account

Some seats may be reserved for specific groups (e.g., majors, minors, credential candidates), depending on department priorities.

Outside of these reserved seats, the waitlist order is honored by sign-up position.

Go to UAccess > Enrollment > Schedule.

Select the Waitlisted Classes tab to view your current position.

Your chances depend on:

  • Your position on the waitlist
  • Whether enrolled students drop
  • Department or instructor discretion (e.g., room capacity, pedagogy)

While some students do get in, many classes remain full.

  • The waitlist closes after the first week of the semester.
  • After this date, we no longer admit new students.

This ensures a cohesive learning experience given the participatory nature of ASL instruction.

We do not admit students several weeks into the term, even if seats open.

ASL is a sequential, immersive course; late additions fall too far behind and disrupt class flow.

No. Only officially enrolled students may attend class after the first week.

This maintains equity and complies with room capacity limits.

No. Instructors do not manage enrollment or overrides.

All enrollment goes through the department and official waitlist process.

Yes—if your schedule allows.

You may increase your chances by joining more than one section’s waitlist, but you can only enroll in one ASL course per semester.

Plan to register early for the next term.

ASL courses fill quickly, so monitor your registration dates and sign up as soon as your window opens.

You may also consult your academic advisor to adjust your plan.

Not necessarily.

You may be added temporarily to Brightspace so you don’t miss early materials in case you’re admitted later.

Check your official status in UAccess > Enrollment > Schedule under the Waitlisted Classes tab.

If your question isn’t answered here, please contact the College of Education Advising Office or the ASL Program Coordinator listed on the COE website.

Please do not contact individual instructors about enrollment.
