The Indigenous Teacher Education Program (ITEP) prepares you to teach K-8 in Indigenous communities, while staying rooted in your own. As a "grow our own" program, ITEP is built around a simple idea: the best teachers for Indigenous students often come from Indigenous communities themselves.
You'll learn alongside cultural Knowledge Holders and mentors, building curriculum that centers and sustains Indigenous knowledge, values, and languages, not curriculum that treats them as an afterthought. It's teacher preparation designed for justice-oriented, culturally sustaining education from the ground up.
Because ITEP partners directly with district and tribal schools, you can complete your coursework through distance learning without leaving home. And from your very first semester, you'll be in real classrooms, doing fieldwork with Indigenous students, not just reading about it.
