Assistant professor to redesign community-based STEM teaching experience for future educators

Congratulations to Dr. Sung Eun Jung, assistant professor in the College of Education, on her selection for the AY26–27 Experiential Learning Design Accelerator (ELDA) Faculty Fellowship.

Through the fellowship, Dr. Jung will redesign the community-based STEM teaching component of a science methods course within the Teaching, Learning & Sociocultural Studies Early Childhood Education program. Her work will strengthen partnerships with local community organizations while creating new opportunities for future educators to engage in meaningful, community-connected learning.

As part of the course redesign, Dr. Jung will prepare future educators to create culturally responsive, student-driven STEM learning experiences that build on young children’s interests, stories and everyday knowledge. By connecting teacher preparation with community-based experiences, her project will help aspiring educators develop practical approaches to making STEM learning relevant and meaningful for young children.

Dr. Jung’s fellowship project highlights the College of Education’s commitment to preparing educators who connect classroom learning with the communities they serve and create engaging learning experiences grounded in students’ lives.
